Electrification Strategy for some Ford Models Brings Excitement to Preston Ford of Maryland

With electrified technology advancements, Ford is taking advantage of the benefits of lithium-ion batteries. This type of battery, found in most laptops, cell phones, iPods, offer tremendous advantages in that they are light weight yet high in energy density and they hold their charge even after hundreds of charge/discharge cycles and ultimately reduce the cost of new electric vehicles.

Targeted vehicles to undergo this transformation from gasoline powered to pure battery electric are:
The Ford Transit Connect commercial van. Set to be delivered in 2010, this small commercial van was designed to fit the needs of businesses with defined transportation routes who then return to a central charging location at day’s end. Examples of businesses that could benefit from this innovation are: florists, caterers, courier services, just to name a few.

In 2011 Ford is scheduled to launch a battery electric Ford Focus; a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) produced with both retail and commercial customers in mind.

With any new innovation, however, comes the need for extensive research, testing and collaboration with a spectrum of industry partners. Particular to this “Plug-In” project, working closing with utility partners in determining electric grid needs to accommodate customer usage is key. Recognizing this need, Ford has developed an intelligent vehicle-to-grid communication and control system designed to enable its “plug-in” hybrid vehicles to “talk” directly with the nations electric grids.

Preston Ford of Maryland recognizes advantage of Seatbelt Airbags to protect children in rear seat

After extensive testing with various configurations, Ford introduces another FIRST in the industry; The Seat Belt Airbag for rear seat passengers. Designed to inflate at a much lower rate and force than traditional front and side compartment airbags, these seat belt airbags are safe for children and the elderly alike. As studies and tests prove, even the child who is asleep with their head resting on the seatbelt is safe from injury.

The airbags, which are sewn in the shoulder section of the rear seat belt, are designed to deploy outward and to the sides thus offering a wider point load of impact than traditional seat belts. With a wider point load, chest and neck injuries are greatly reduced. In fact, these seat belt airbags are specifically designed to give added support and protection from head and neck injuries resulting from a severe crash.

It is also believed that these airbags could also reduce the risk of passenger ejection during a rollover accident, as shown in a study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Since the introduction of the seat belt, the front seat passenger has benefited from the majority of the focus on safety. However, with these new Airbag seatbelts, the focus for passenger safety now shifts to the back seat, “where more often than not, the occupants are our children”, states Mark Thursby, Ford Lincoln Mercury Sales Manager, at Preston Ford located in Hurlock, MD.

Although this feature may not prove to be inexpensive, Ford will offer it as optional equipment on the new Ford Explorer for the two outboard rear seats. In the meantime, other automakers and regulating government agencies will be keeping a close eye on consumer desire and purchasing trend for this valuable protection.

Redesigned Hyundai Sonata Expected to Boost Image for Hyundai Brand in Maryland

On September 17th, 2009 Hyundai unveiled its newly designed 2011 Sonata. Hyundai says the new design will be key to its goal in reestablishing its image. Maryland and Delaware Car Dealer Taking in Trades Regardless if Consumers Buy From Dealership

The Car Allowance Rebate System is now officially over. The hugely successful program created massive results in the automotive industry. The first result of course was the huge jump in new automobile sales across the nation. Dealers felt like they were back in the “good ole” days of selling cars. The second result the CARS program brought was mixed feeling on dealer’s pre-owned inventory. Some dealers did not see much of a change in the sales of pre-owned vehicles, as people who did not qualify for the CARS program could easily buy a pre-owned vehicle. However most dealers saw pre-owned sales drop and even worse, a huge drop in trade-in vehicles (since all trade-ins from the CARS program were to be crushed).
One dealer, Preston Automotive Group, has seen both good and bad outcomes from the CARS program (mostly good). Preston Automotive who collectively did 330 CARS deals in the Maryland and Delaware areas saw a rather large increase for the dealer group. Sales went up, but trade-in vehicles were low. Sure most of the trade-ins were “clunkers” and were not lot worthy but some of the older vehicles could were lot worthy. And because most deals were CARS deals pre-owned inventory did not grow as fast as it did previously.
The Preston dealership network serving Maryland, Delaware and Virginia has taken full advantage of the program, dedicating countless hours and even an entire building reserved as their CARS information center. After all the work that the employees at Preston had put in, even after the program is over more work is still ahead. However this time the priority is pre-owned inventory.
Many dealers are doing the same thing, even the dealers who are not franchise owners are scrambling to gain more pre-owned inventory. “Sure we can gain more pre-owned vehicles from auto auctions like Manheim, but the reality is that auto auctions are not enough. We must get quality trade-ins straight from the customers themselves to keep inventory levels up,” states Russ Nickerson who oversees all pre-owned inventory for Preston Autoplex.
Preston Autoplex, part of the Preston Automotive Group, has started a new promotion to help gain more inventory. The promotion is simple, Preston wants your vehicle. Preston Automotive is willing to pay top dollar (which means paying good or even excellent condition on Kelly Blue Book standards for fair and poor condition vehicles) for a vehicle even if that customer does not purchase a new vehicle from the dealership itself. “Why waste time trying to sell the vehicle yourself, when you can bring it here and let us sell it for you,” states Chris Marks, the General Manager of Preston Autoplex.
With many programs coming out by dealers designed to increase pre-owned sales and inventory, the wave that comes after the CARS program will be pre-owned vehicles.

Used Car Sales Get an Unexpected Boost from Clunkers Program

Many consumers are going to car dealerships to capitalize on the cash for clunkers program and purchase a new car for $4500 less, but riding away in a perfectly good pre-owned vehicle. This is due to the fact that a substantial number of vehicles do not qualify for the program.

Dealers are stocking up on late-model used cars because once they get a potential buyer on the lot they want to make sure that they have some that the customer will be attracted to. However this high demand for decent used cars and low supply, because of the ones being crushed under the clunkers program, has driven up the price of used cars.

Decreasing the supply of used cars has also driven up the price of customer’s trade-ins. Therefore it is beneficial to buy now even if your car does not qualify as a clunker to get all you can out of your trade.

Cash for Clunkers is a Hit: Maryland Car Dealer Sells Over 120 and Counting

The Preston Automotive Group serves Maryland, Delaware and Virginia with great deals on new and used CARS and their participation in the Car Allowance Rebate System has allowed them to sell over 60 new cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles.
The Preston Automotive Group was one of the few dealerships in Maryland and Delaware to offer the car allowance rebate system to customers prior to the release date of the official rules from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. This strategy proved successful for the automotive group, as they have delivered over 60 vehicles from various franchises such as Ford Lincoln Mercury, Nissan, Hyundai, Mazda and Suzuki.
Preston Ford a dealership associated with the Preston Automotive Group, sealed their first deal July 2, 2009. The first deal was done with a couple trading in their 1990 Ford Bronco for the new purchase of a 2009 Ford Focus. The couple’s trade qualified for a government rebate of $4500 making the purchase of a new focus a steal for Maryland residents Al and Betsy Mullins.
The Maryland car dealer has put together a team of experts on the car allowance rebate system in order to create a system of checks and balances to insure all possible deals under the CARS program are initiated, and no eligible deals are turned away. Preston’s Director of CARS deals, Rick Mikolajewski, stated, “We have already done 120 deals and counting, It is amazing to see some of the vehicles our customers have been driving around in as their primary vehicle, some models I didn’t even know existed have been traded to us under the CARS program.”
Car shoppers from Maryland and Delaware have been desperate for answers to their questions about the confusing stipulations of the car allowance rebate system. Maryland Car Dealer Promotes the New Nissan Sentra and Versa Models

Nissan North America boasts the great value of the new Nissan Versa and Sentra models. Nissan dealers like Preston Nissan in Maryland are taking advantage of the new incentives offered from the franchise and for the first time in a long time consumers will be able to purchase a new car for about $5500.
The low price of $5500 is not derived from Nissan incentives alone. The recent CARS act will allow customers to trade in a gas guzzling vehicle and purchase a new fuel efficient vehicle, such as a Versa or Sentra, receiving up to $4500 from the government towards their purchase.
Nissan’s compact Versa gets 26 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway for a combined fuel mileage of 30 miles per gallon. The Versa is a Consumers Digest Best Buy and has received the highest ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Versa’s four cylinder engine packs a lot of punch with 122 horsepower.
The Versa is not the only budget fitting model Nissan has to offer customers, the new Nissan Sentra SR is a stylish alternative to the slightly more expensive Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. The Sentra SR is now available for a 39 month lease as low as $149 a month.
The Nissan Sentra SR comes standard with a continuously variable transmission that allows the car to shift without the driver hearing or feeling the shift. The Sentra SR also comes with 16” alloy wheels, six speaker sound system, and more head room than Civic and Corolla.

Maryland Car Dealer Serves First CARS or Cash for Clunkers Customer

Yesterday Preston Automotive Group confirmed their first deal under the new CARS act. The CARS act was signed into law in late June, allowing customers trading in non fuel efficient vehicles the opportunity to receive up to $4500 from the government towards the purchase of a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Al and Betsy Mullins were the first to purchase a new vehicle from the Preston Automotive Group receiving full benefits from the CARS act. The couple traded in their 1990 Ford Bronco 4x4 that managed a combined 11 miles per gallon EPA estimated fuel economy to purchase a 2009 Ford Focus that received an combined EPA estimated fuel rating of 27 miles per gallon at Preston Ford.

Since the trade-in received a fuel economy rating of under 18 miles per gallon and the new vehicle purchased got at least 10 miles per gallon more than the trade in, the couple received the full credit totaling $4500 for a trade-in that otherwise might have been less than $3500.

Preston Ford of the Preston Automotive Group was the first of the group to finalize a deal under the rebate program. New Maryland and Delaware Hyundai Owners Pay $1.49 at the Pump

Hyundai is taking their customers back to when gas was only $1.49 per gallon with their new price-lock promotion. Preston Hyundai serves Maryland and Delaware with an unbeatable selection of Hyundais at great prices and they are proud to be able to offer Hyundai’s new price-lock promotion to their loyal customers.
Hyundai’s new program will supply new customers with a year’s supply of gas at just $1.49 per gallon for regular unleaded gas. Customers will have the option of paying an extra 15 cents per gallon for mid-range fuel or 30 cents extra per gallon for premium.
When a customer purchases any 2009 Hyundai, they have the options of price-lock or they can take rebates and incentives equivalent to the estimated savings on fuel. If price-lock is chosen the customer will enroll online at Hyundai.pricelock.com after the dealer has given them the proper information.

The customer will link a valid Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discovery credit card paired with a special pin that will be used only when purchasing gas. When the customer is done pumping, the receipt will show as the full pump price; however the customer’s credit card bill will show the discounted price. Hyundai’s price-lock site uses the same online security standards banks use, so customer’s information will be safe. Your CARS Qualifier Center For Maryland, Delaware and Virginia Areas Will Be Preston Automotive Group

President Obama’s recently signed the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save bill, giving the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration until July 24, 2009 to establish complete rules and regulations for the program. Dealerships everywhere are jumping onboard, registering themselves with the program to become a participating dealer. Preston Automotive Group will be your CARS qualifier center for the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia areas.
The new bill will allow consumers to trade in vehicles that only get an EPA estimated, combined fuel efficiency rating of 18 miles per gallon or less and receive a credit of $3500 or $4500 depending on a variety of specifications.
The trade-in specifications have been broken down into four separate categories; passenger car, category 1 trucks, category 2 trucks and category 3 trucks. Customers must have owned and insured the trade-in vehicle for at least one year and the trade-in must be less than 25 years old on the date of trade-in. The vehicle must be in drivable condition and the voucher will only be given to those purchasing a new vehicle or leasing a vehicle for a minimum of 5 years. The new vehicle must also be under $45,000.
Rick Mikolajewski will head up the Qualifier Center at Preston, he has commented, “We are putting all of our focus on learning all the program details so we can offer the greatest cash voucher and make the process an easy experience. We plan on selling vehicles under the CARS program on July 1st and we plan on having a positive turn out.” Preston Automotive Group has many new vehicles eligible for the CARS program representing brands like Nissan, Mazda, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Hyundai, Suzuki and Chevrolet.
The CARS program will be compatible with any other government incentives as well as any manufacturer’s incentives. If a customer purchases a hybrid vehicle under the new program then they are able to use the Hybrid Vehicle Credit as well as the CARS cash voucher.
The program is expected to provide cash vouchers for 250,000 vehicles and will begin July 1, 2009 and run until November 1, 2009 or until the funds designated for the program have been exhausted.

Maryland and Delaware Car Buyers Feel Assured: Hyundai Outscores Toyota and Honda in Initial Quality

Hyundai’s quality is recognized yet again, this time by J.D. Power & Associates, who ranked the Korean automaker the number one brand in initial quality for the non-premium segment. Other automakers included in this segment were brands like Honda, Toyota and Nissan. Hyundai was also ranked fourth in the overall industry, just behind Lexus, Porsche and Cadillac.

Cash For Clunkers Bill Passed: Maryland Car Dealer Ready For Sales

The Cash for Clunkers program was approved last Friday thanks to overwhelming dealership support for the bill. Automotive dealerships local to the D.C. metropolitan area and the surrounding areas showed their support by making numerous phone calls to their congressmen urging them to vote for passing the bill.
Congress has allotted 1 billion dollars for the program, which will translate into about 250,000 cash vouchers for trade-in vehicles. The requirements for the cash voucher state that the trade-in vehicle must have a combined MPG of 18 or less and the buyer must purchase a vehicle with 18 mpg or more.
The vehicle purchased must also be brand new and have never been titled, manufactured less than 25 years before date of the trade-in, and have an MSRP of $45,000 or less.
Dealerships under the Preston Automotive Group umbrella have already announced their participation in the new program in hopes to get car buyers in the Maryland and Delaware areas out of their “clunkers.” Vehicles will become available for sale with the cash voucher starting July, 1 2009.The U.S. Department of Transportation will have 30 days to establish a detailed list of rules and regulations for the program.
Brent Durham, spokesperson for Preston Automotive, stated, “The new bill helps out dealerships and more importantly our customers. Someone who has been riding in a 15 year old gas guzzling SUV will now be eligible to get a up to a $4500 trade-in value on a new fuel efficient SUV!”
Vehicles that have been traded in will no longer be available for sale but instead they will be sold to recyclers or crushed.
The program is currently scheduled to be available from July 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009. Some manufacturers are allowing the cash voucher to be used as down payment for new models; Mazda is currently one of them. Maryland Mazda Dealer Thrilled About Parents Magazine Recommended Models

A recent issue of Parents magazine reveals their top 15 recommended vehicles that hold qualities of safety, value, performance and family friendly features. Three of Parents recommendations included the Mazda CX-9, Mazda 5 and Mazda 6 models. McCain Purchases New Ford Fusion Hybrid

According to Senator John McCain's twitter feed yesterday morning, the republican senator plans on purchasing a new Ford Fusion Hybrid. His office stated that he plans on going with the silver model with optional voice activated navigation system.

The Senator is scheduled to receive his new hybrid today. McCain voted against the federal aid for automakers back in December, making a Ford purchase a smart decision as they did not opt to receive any federal aid.

The 2010 Fusion Hybrid has a cheap base price compared to most hybrid vehicles starting at only $27,000 and getting 41 m.p.g. city and 36 m.p.g. on the highway. The Senator will be replacing his Cadillac CTS, which is what he would normal drive around the D.C. and Maryland area.

Cash For Clunkers Bill Participating Dealer to be Preston Automotive Group in Maryland

Late afternoon yesterday, Congress began steps to write the Cash For Clunkers Bill into law which would bring good news to Maryland Car Dealer Preston Automotive Group. The Cash For Clunkers Bill is an upcoming law which Democratic law makers hope to add to the Supplemental Appropriations bill conference report.

The final House vote resulted in 298 for the bill and 119 against the passing of the bill. If passed the law would set aside 4 billion dollars towards electronic cash rebates. The cash rebates would only be available to those who trade in a vehicle with estimated MPG ratings of 18 mpg or less. Other details for the rebate state that the trade-in must have been owned and registered for at least one year.

The amount of the rebate would depend on the EPA’s rating on the new car purchased. The max amount of the rebate could be $4500 on new cars granted that the new vehicle is rated at 10 more miles per gallon than their trade-in.

Dealerships across America are getting a jumpstart in order to prepare for the expected burst of sales. Drive the Ford Difference Sales Event Offered By Maryland Car Dealer

In an industry where auto makers are struggling for money, Ford Motor Company is giving it away. The drive the Ford difference sales event is a new program developed to invite customers to test drive new quality, fuel efficient, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Maryland car dealer, Preston Ford began offering the new incentive program to its customers yesterday.

The drive the Ford difference is all about noticing the difference in quality, fuel efficiency, safety and the overall feel that Ford Lincoln and Mercury vehicles have to offer over the competition. Whether it is a foreign or domestic competitor Ford wants to prove the difference.

Some of the new incentives offered by Ford Motor Company include major cash bonuses and low percentage financing. When purchasing any 2008 or 2009, Ford or Mercury with the exception of the Mustang Shelby and any final pay vehicles, Ford Motor Company offers $1500 cash back with 0% financing for 36 months or $1500 discounted from the original sale price.

When purchasing any 2008 or 2009 Lincoln, Super Duty or Excursion, the cash bonus is increased offering $2100 cash back with 0% financing for 36 months or $2100 discounted from the original sale price. The incentives are not only for 2008 and 2009 year models; Ford has also planned cash bonuses for the brand new 2010 year models.

The 2010 Ford Fusion, Edge and Mercury Milan with the exception of hybrid models all offer $1000 cash back or discount as well was 0% financing for 36 months. All 2010 Lincoln models and Super Duty vehicles offer $1400 cash back or discount with 0% financing for 36 months. These new incentives are effective until the 31st of June.

Maryland Commercial Ford Dealer Scheduled to Release the Transit Connect

Preston Ford’s commercial truck division located in Hurlock, Maryland has scheduled the arrival of the all new Ford Transit Connect. The Transit Connect is Ford Motor Company’s all new, European inspired, small commercial van that will appeal to small business owners and fulfill the need for a fuel efficient work vehicle.

The all new Transit Connect is said to have a maximum storage capacity of 143 cubic feet while sustaining great fuel economy, 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The small commercial van will be fully customizable with different aftermarket storage systems available from commercial brand names such as Sortimo and Adrian Steel.

Measuring in at 15 feet long the Transit has a turning radius of just 39 feet curb to curb and standing at 6’8” the small commercial van is ideal for businesses that work in tight areas and need the maneuverability that the Transit Connect offers. The new barn-door hinges on the 50/50 split rear doors of Ford’s new commercial vehicle make it easier for loading and unloading cargo.

Unique to the Transit Connect, Ford Work Solutions apply new technology to improve efficiency for small businesses that spend most of their time on the road. The new commercial van offers the option of an in-dash Windows computer that provides hands free telecommunication, Internet access and turn by turn navigation.

Ford Work Solutions has also paired up with DeWALT to provide technology that will keep track of tools stored in the vehicle. Using Radio Frequency Identification users can scan their van before leaving a job to insure that they have left no tool behind. This new feature may guarantee the Maryland Ford dealer the anticipated response to the new commercial van.

Ford Motor Company has left no details out in the development of the new Transit Connect. The small van will offer an advanced stability control system that re-measures the rate of roll 100 times per second, insuring that the new commercial vehicle is safe for all businesses.

Many are excited about the arrival of the Transit Connect including Commercial Sales Manager, Jim Phelps, who stated, “We are very excited for the arrival of the new commercial van and have already had many inquiries about the Transit Connect. Funds from Preston Ford Lincoln Mercury will help benefit the Class of 2010

The recent Drive One 4 UR School fundraiser sponsored by Ford Lincoln Mercury and Preston Ford Lincoln Mercury on April 25th generated over $600 for North Caroline High School. Ford Lincoln Mercury donated $20 for each household that drove one of six vehicles in its current lineup. At first count, over thirty members of the community participated in the unique event. “It’s always rewarding to be able to do something good for the community, and with the support of Ford Motor Company, the Drive One 4 UR School program was an excellent opportunity for Preston to help raise money for the NCHS Class of 2010,” said Diana Vincent, Director of Strategic Marketing and Public Relations. Since launching in December of 2007, more than 280 Drive One 4 UR School (formerly Cruise 4 UR School) events have taken place nationwide, raising over $750,000 to support extracurricular and sporting activities. Ford contributes up to $6,000 - the equivalent of 300 test-drives - to each participating school. Preston Ford and Dave Wilson, Owner have always been involved in the community, supporting Little League Teams, local schools and college programs, parks and recreation, fire companies, car and bike shows, ball teams, March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society, among other sponsorships and donations.

Maryland Ford Dealer Welcomes News of New Ford Initial Quality Rankings

After years of dominance from Japanese automakers, Ford has moved past Honda in initial vehicle quality rankings and is now in a statistical tie with Toyota at the top of the list, according to the 2009 U.S. Global Quality Research System study.  The good news resonates loudly in the ears of Preston Ford employees who have been the leading provider of Ford cars in the Delaware – Maryland area.  

The GQRS survey measured 2009 model-year vehicles' initial quality in two categories: the number of things gone wrong and customer satisfaction with vehicle quality during the first three months of ownership.

At 1,228 problems per 1,000 vehicles, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models showed a 5-percent improvement in things gone wrong. Honda had 1,422 things go wrong per 1,000 vehicles, while Toyota was at 1,150. As far as customer satisfaction with vehicle quality, Ford came in at 79 percent, an improvement of 2 percent. This tied Honda and Toyota's scores.
